Esports comp - Halo Infinite Armageddon

 Papakura Esports for Halo Infinite

During the morning and lunch breaks, students have played Halo Infinite over the past several weeks. Benjamin Foster, Cole Devenie, Troy Phillips, and Wairua Moon looked forward to taking part in this multiplayer competition on the 11th of June 2022.  The opportunity for students to form a team of four and register for the event was led by the students through their own doing and getting to the event and back. The team have shown some amazing teamwork skills, communication and determination to have a go. It was also the first time they have attended any Armageddon Esports comp in person. This showed students were displaying the core values of Papakura High School, Te Reo Matatini (Communication) and Mana Motuhake (Student Agency).

The shoutcasters (commentary host) pointed out that these opportunities never existed when they weres at school thus no computers were not fast enough to support esports game based learning! We have been very fortunate to have four esport machines solely for students to use. Many opportunities in the esport industry can lead to a career pathway. The esports club runs every Wednesday after school and practice can be arranged during break times.

What next? The students have decided that the next comp will be an inter-school Rocket League comp happening soon.

KHE (Kura High Esports) came 12th place out of 35. This is pretty amazing since it was their first time entering the Halo Infinite Armageddon comp!
